Armed Forces Day “Drumhead Service” in Birmingham

I am keen to get the public including church members along to the “Drumhead Service” (ie an open air Parade Service – with the Lord Mayor present, a military band and the singing of hymns, reading of the Bible and praying and the Bishop of Birmingham speaking) in Birmingham’s Centenary Square in front of the ICC and the Rep Theatre
on Saturday 30th June 2012 at 12.45 pm.
About 200 service personnel of all three services, cadets and veterans will parade in front of the Lord Mayor. Members of 26 Regt Royal Artillery who have the Freedom of the City will be receiving medals for service in Afghanistan.
It would be good if lots of people turn out to say thank you to the troops and to make them feel really appreciated. In previous years the civilian turn-out hasn’t been great considering all the trouble the military people have gone to to come and be thanked!

So this year let’s do it properly and come in decent numbers and make it clear we are grateful to them.  Please bring your church, golf club, street or whatever.
Here’s the bishop and I invite you to come and bring friends and, as a taster, the recent parade at which the Lord Mayor gave the Freedom of the City to the Guards Brigade!

See you there! Dick
